About Sleep Sensory
What is Sleep Sensory?
Sleep Sensory is a collection of guided imagery stories that can be read to children or children that can listen to. The stories are created in a way so that the child uses their own imagination to create the story in their minds and relax into a restful sleep. The 7 senses are sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch, vestibular (gravity, movement and balance), proprioception (spacial awareness and planning movement). Each story uses a combination of the 7 senses as well as invoking feelings of encouragement, empowerment, bravery and self belief.
How was Sleep Sensory developed?
I am very lucky to be a mum of a 4 year old girl and a 9 month old boy. When Beaux (my daughter) was born, she slept through the night from 3 months old. I couldn’t believe my luck. I was the envy of the mum’s in my mum’s group and friends with babies, but I actually did nothing special to achieve that, I was just LUCKY. Fast forward 2 years. Overnight, she stopped sleeping! Waking at least 4 times a night. Nightmares. Night terrors. Sleep walking. The lot! I was at my wits end, and tried everything anyone told me individually. But I took myself back to my own childhood and what soothed me. I remember my mum guiding me through beach scenes whilst rubbing my back and giving me foot massages. I took this and started to create my own stories that incorporated Beaux’s loves (unicorns, mermaids, butterflies etc), with massage, back rubs, plus essential oil room/pillow sprays. It worked! I couldn’t believe it! Asleep in 10minutes everytime. We obviously have days where it’s not the magic solution, but 9 times out of 10 it worked. I gradually spoke to friends and family and shared stories and tips and they also had positive responses. So, I took the plunge, and here we are!
